Letters in words

Reception
Use the letters s, a, t, p, i, n, m and d in short words

Now you know eight letters: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d. You can use them to make short words.

Look at each letter in the word. Say its sound. Then join the sounds together.

Mia writes the letters of tap: t - a - p. She reads the sounds, and then the word.

tap
Each box is one letter, and each letter makes one sound.

Key ideas

  • Each letter in a short word makes one sound.
  • Join the sounds together to read the word.
  • Write the letters in the same order as the sounds.
