Chapter summary
| Skill | Method |
|---|---|
| Count to 20 | Say one number for each thing, in order. Count on past ten, and start a new ten. |
| Numerals and words | Eleven and twelve have their own names. Thirteen to nineteen end in teen. Twenty comes after nineteen. |
| Tens and ones | A full ten frame is one ten. The counters left over are the ones. 13 is 1 ten and 3 ones. |
| One more and one less | One more is the next number on the right. One less is the number just before, on the left. |
| Compare and order | Bigger numbers are further right on the number line. Any number from 11 to 20 is bigger than 1 to 9. |
| Between | The number in the middle of two numbers, for example 17 is between 16 and 18. |
