| Per cent and equivalences | Per cent means out of 100. A decimal becomes a percentage with × 100. A fraction becomes a percentage by making the bottom 100, or by dividing and then × 100. |
| Building blocks | 10% is ÷ 10, 1% is ÷ 100, 50% is half, 25% is a quarter, 75% is three quarters. Add the parts for other percentages. |
| A percentage of a measure | Write the percentage as a fraction out of 100 and multiply, or build it from 10%. Make the units the same first. |
| A part as a percentage of a whole | part ÷ whole, then × 100. Use the same units on the top and the bottom. |
| Finding the whole | Find 1% of the whole from the part, then multiply by 100. |
| Comparing | Change each amount to a percentage of its own whole and then compare. For savings, compare the amounts saved in pounds. |
