GCSE Maths Statistics: lesson and practice questions
- Strand Statistics
- Tier Foundation and Higher
- Practice 234 questions with step-by-step solutions
By the end of this chapter you will be able to
- Classify data as categorical, discrete or continuous, and collect it with tally charts, frequency tables, two-way tables and questionnaires
- Spot bias, choose a fair sample, find a stratified sample and estimate a population with capture-recapture
- Find the mean, median, mode and range from a list, a frequency table and a grouped frequency table
- Draw and read bar charts, pictograms, vertical line charts, pie charts, line graphs, time series and stem-and-leaf diagrams
- Draw scatter graphs, describe correlation, draw a line of best fit and use it to estimate (and know the dangers of extrapolating)
- Compare distributions using an average and a measure of spread
You should already know
- Fractions, decimals and percentages of amounts (Chapters 3, 4 and 5)
- Reading scales and plotting coordinates (Chapter 12)
- Angles at a point and using a protractor (Chapter 17)
- Ratio and proportion (Chapter 15)
Where this leads
- Probability and relative frequency (Chapter 23)
- Interpreting graphs of real-life situations (Chapters 12 and 13)
- Using data in exam problem solving across the course
