Counting and naming the things in our classroom.

We can write a number with digits, like 36. This is a numeral.

We can also write it in words, like thirty-six.

Numbers from 11 to 19 have special names. For example, fifteen.

Other numbers have a tens word and a ones word.

There are 15 stars. We say fifteen.

  • A numeral uses digits, like 36.
  • Words are the name of the number, like thirty-six.
  • Numbers from 11 to 19 have special names.
  • A hyphen joins the tens word and the ones word.
  • One hundred is written as 100.
