Chapter summary
| Skill | Method |
|---|---|
| Fraction | The bottom number is how many equal parts. The top number is how many parts are shaded. |
| Thirds and quarters | One third is one of three equal parts (1/3). One quarter is one of four equal parts (1/4). |
| Two and three quarters | Two quarters is 2/4. Three quarters is 3/4. |
| Fraction of a group | Share the group into equal groups. Then take the number of groups the fraction asks for. |
| Writing 1/2 of 6 | Share 6 into 2 equal groups. Each group has 3, so 1/2 of 6 = 3. |
| Equal fractions | Two quarters make one half. So 2/4 and 1/2 are the same amount. |
