- Count the squares. Each yellow square is one hour.24 squares
- Remember the fact. A day has 24 hours.1 day = 24 hours
- Write the answer. 24
Check. Count again in tens and fours: 10 + 10 + 4 = 24. ✓
Watch out. A day has 24 hours, not 12. The clock shows 12 hours twice in a day.
Watch out
Watch out: 1 hour is 60 minutes, not 100 minutes. Count in fives round the clock to check: 12 fives make 60.
Exam tip
Grown-up tip. Count round a clock together in fives: 5, 10, 15 ... up to 60. Ask: “How many minutes are in half an hour?” A kitchen timer for 15 minutes shows a quarter of an hour.
