Watch out
Watch out: a daisy and a dandelion can grow close together. Look closely. A daisy has white petals with a yellow middle. A dandelion is all yellow.
Try it at home (with a grown-up)
Lawn look. Go to a lawn or a field with a grown-up. Find a daisy, a dandelion and a clover plant. Look at them closely from where you kneel. Do not pick the flowers. Count the leaves on one clover. Wash your hands afterwards.
Working scientifically
What do you notice about the middle of a daisy and the middle of a buttercup? How could we find out which flower in the lawn has the most petals?
Exam tip
Grown-up tip. Kneel by the flowers together and ask, “What colour is the middle? How many petals can you count?” Wild flowers grow best where they are, so take a photo or a drawing instead of picking them.
