Writing the answer in a sum

A sum is a number sentence. It has numbers, a plus sign, an equals sign and the answer.

Work out the answer, then write it after the equals sign.

Key ideas

  • A sum has a plus sign and an equals sign.
  • Write the answer after the equals sign.
  • The total is never more than 10 in this chapter.
Worked example 6.3.1
Write the answer: 3 + 4 = □

Method. Put the two groups together. Start at the bigger number and count on.
