SkillMethod
PatternsA pattern repeats. Find the part that repeats, then carry it on. In a growing pattern each step adds the same amount.
ArrangementsAn arrangement is a different order. List every order, then count each one once.
CombinationsA combination picks one thing from each group. List every pair, then count each pair once.
Grid positionRow 1 is the top row. Column 1 is the left column. Count rows down and squares across.
MovementMoving right or left stays in a row. Moving up or down stays in a column. A turn starts a new line.
Quarter, half, three-quarterA quarter turn makes 1 right angle. A half turn makes 2. A three-quarter turn makes 3. A whole turn makes 4.
Clockwise and anticlockwiseClockwise goes up, right, down, left. Anticlockwise goes up, left, down, right.
