Exam tip
Grown-up tip. Let your child feel a cotton T-shirt or a tea towel, then a sheet of newspaper. Ask: “Which is cloth? Which is paper?” Talk about how each one feels, not only how it looks.
Try it at home
With a grown-up, find two pieces of cloth (an old tea towel or a T-shirt) and two pieces of paper (scrap paper or newspaper). Feel each one, then tear a small corner off each. Which one tears more easily? Put the scraps in the bin.
Working scientifically
What do you think will happen when we tear the paper and the cloth? How could we find out which one tears more easily?
