Rubber, and objects with more than one material
Rubber is stretchy and bouncy. A bouncy ball and an elastic band are often made of rubber. Bicycle tyres are made of rubber too.
Many objects are made from more than one material. This toy car has a plastic body and rubber wheels. Scissors have metal blades and plastic handles.

Exam tip
Grown-up tip. Look at a toy car or a pair of child-safe scissors together. Ask your child: “What is the body made from? What are the wheels made from?” Real scissors are for use only with a grown-up.
Try it at home
With a grown-up, look at a toy car or a pair of child-safe scissors. Point to each part and say what you think it is made from. Then ask a grown-up to check. If you stretch a rubber band, keep it away from your eyes, and let a grown-up hold it.
