KS2 Maths textbook
Year 6 Angles, Shapes and Circles: lesson and practice
- Strand Geometry
- Level Year 6
- Practice 97 questions with step-by-step solutions
By the end of this chapter you will be able to
- Find a missing angle on a straight line (180 degrees), at a point (360 degrees) and opposite a crossing
- Find the missing angles in triangles and quadrilaterals, and the angles of an isosceles triangle
- Work out the interior angles of a polygon, and each angle of a regular polygon
- Name the radius, diameter and circumference of a circle, and use the diameter is twice the radius
- Work out the circumference of a circle using pi = 3.14 or 22/7
- Draw a shape from its sides and angles, and count the faces, edges and vertices of a 3-D shape
- Check whether a net folds up into a cube
You should already know
- Angles and shapes: acute, obtuse and reflex angles, and angles on a line and at a point (Year 5, Chapter 9)
- Perimeter of rectangles and other shapes (Year 5, Chapter 8; Year 6, Chapter 9)
- Multiplying and dividing decimals (Year 6, Chapter 5)
- Simple equations with one unknown, used for missing angles (Year 6, Chapter 8)
Where this leads
- Coordinates, reflection and translation of shapes (Year 6, Chapter 11)
- Circle area, and angles in parallel lines and circles (KS3)
- Using angle facts to prove geometric results (KS3)
