KS2 Maths textbook
Year 6 Pie Charts, Line Graphs and the Mean: lesson and practice
- Strand Statistics
- Level Year 6
- Practice 97 questions with step-by-step solutions
By the end of this chapter you will be able to
- Read the per cent and the angle of a sector on a pie chart, and find the number in a sector when the total is known
- Work out the angle of each sector from a table, and check that the angles add up to 360 degrees
- Read values from a line graph, plot points on a scale and join them with straight lines
- Solve problems with line graphs: comparing two lines, totals, the biggest rise and the average change for each hour
- Find the mean of a set of values by dividing the total by the number of values
- Use the mean to find a total or a missing value, and say what the mean does and does not tell us
You should already know
- Fractions, and finding a fraction of an amount (Year 6, Chapter 4)
- Per cent and its equivalents to fractions (Year 6, Chapter 6)
- Reading and comparing a line graph, and the difference between two values (Year 5, Chapter 11)
- Reading bar charts and tables, and tallies (Year 4, Chapter 11)
Where this leads
- Using pie charts, line graphs, tables and averages together in the SATs revision chapter (Year 6, Chapter 13)
