Open Year 3 chapter

By the end of this chapter you will be able to

  • Name the four main parts of a flowering plant and find each one on a picture
  • Say what the roots do: they hold the plant in the soil and take in water and minerals
  • Say what the stem does: it holds up the leaves and flower, carries water up, and carries food from the leaves
  • Say what the leaves do: they catch light and use it to make food for the plant
  • Say what the flower does: it makes seeds, and its petals can attract insects
  • Explain how all the parts of a plant work together, for a tree and for a bean plant

You should already know

  • Living things need food, water and air to grow (Year 2 Science, Chapter 2 and Chapter 3)

Where this leads

  • What plants need, and how water moves inside them (Year 3 Science, Chapter 3)
  • The life cycle of a flowering plant, including pollination and seed dispersal (Year 3 Science, Chapter 4)
