Lists and finding a fact

Year 1
Read labels, captions and lists in a fact text, Find a fact in a short text
Lists and finding a fact.

A list puts things one under another, on separate lines. Each line starts with a dot called a bullet. A list makes facts easy to read, because each fact is on its own line.

To find a fact, read the question first. Then look in the text for the key words in the question, or words that mean the same thing.

The four seasons in the UK: spring, summer, autumn and winter.

The four seasons in the UK

There are four seasons. They always come in this order:

  • Spring: March, April and May. Plants start to grow. Lambs are born on farms.
  • Summer: June, July and August. The days are long and warm.
  • Autumn: September, October and November. Leaves turn yellow and brown and fall from the trees.
  • Winter: December, January and February. The days are short and cold.

Key ideas

  • There are four seasons in the UK: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
  • The seasons always come in the same order.

Method. Read the question first. Then find the part of the text that answers it.

  1. Read the question. Look for the key words in it.

  2. Find the part of the text. Find the bullet that talks about short and cold days.
